I hope you’re all safe and sound, and enjoying the holiday with your family and friends.

We’ll dust this thing off and be updating regularly once we get back to work in early January.

Thanks for all your support this year. We’ll see you in 2009.

A FEW QUICKIES…
December 8th, 2008 (72 Comments)

1) For those of you who are interested, I’ll be doing a quick sports/music/whatever-else-comes-up chat on ESPN.com tomorrow at noon (pacific time). Come hang out. I can’t promise I’ll be as well-versed in pop culture and knowledgeable about sports (especially Boston-based teams) as Bill Simmons, or as vague as Joe Morgan, but I’ll do my best. Here’s the link to the chat, if you’d like to come get virtual.

2) Our DVD comes out tomorrow (just in time to be a perfect stocking stuffer). Get it.

3) Read Teppei’s post below this one. He’s selling gear, and he just might have something you’re looking for.

Home, Gear, etc
December 8th, 2008 (13 Comments)

We’ve been relaxing at home the last week or two, getting ready for the holidays and switching gears into writing mode. We’ll have more updates more often once we start actually doing stuff. For now, we’ve been readjusting to home life and taking a little breather.

On another note, for anyone interested, I’m thinking about selling off a bunch of my gear. I’ve been collecting lots and lots of gear as long as we’ve been a band…I guess I’m a bit of a pack rat, and so lots of acquiring and no getting rid of. I think it’s about time. I’m still wrestling with my pack rat nature and am weighing what I want to get rid of and what I want to keep, but if you’re interested, hit me up and we can talk. A few guitars, amps, keyboards, etc. I’ve always been really conflicted about whether to just anonymously sell my stuff off or to let people know, but I’ve been urged by peeps that I ought to give people who might appreciate it the chance before I do. So there. Email me at packratteppei@gmail.com Cheers.

Oh, and we’ve been hoarding just the same collectively as a band, and we’ve been talking about selling a TON of old stuff. Mostly road cases and what not, but a lot of other stuff as well. We’ll hopefully get around to that some time during this break. We’ll keep you posted.

listening:
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
Beach House - Devotion
Cat Power - Covers
(Peter Green’s) Fleetwood Mac - Best Of, and Self Titled.
I had no idea, but before Fleetwood Mac was Stevie Nicks, Go Your Own Way, and all things pop rock, they were a killer blues band fronted by an obscure, ridiculously good guitar player named Peter Green. At one point, they had three insane (literally and figuratively) guitar players who all sang as well, all who went nuts in their own ways and left the band. What an interesting story, you should look it up. I guess the line between genius and insane is really that thin.

SORRY IT’S BEEN SO QUIET AROUND HERE
November 19th, 2008 (51 Comments)

We’re getting towards the end of this thing and I guess we’ve been wrapped up in what’s actually happening, rather than blogging about it. Not sure if that’s a valid excuse (or if one is even necessary), but that’s what’s going on. We’ve definitely had a good time on this tour, and while it’s been long, the end of it has really snuck up on us pretty quickly. It’s been great to reconnect with the guys in Rise Against and Alkaline Trio (Dan and I watched the Lakers v. Bulls game last night–which ended up better for me than him…haha), and we’ve made some great new friends in The Gaslight Anthem. It’s been awesome to hear/see Gaslight every night, and get to hang out with them. They’re friends for life, for sure. Such a good group of people…band and crew.

We’re kicking some ideas around for our next record, recording demos in the back lounge of the bus, and I think we’re all really excited about what’s coming out of us. It’s gonna be interesting to see what comes of these ideas when we get home and start hashing them out with the four of us in the same room.

And that’s about it from here. It’s getting chilly in the Midwest, and if you’ve read this blog before (see: Canadian Tour last February), you know how much we hate love cold weather. We’re bundling up and heading out for a birthday dinner for Dustin tonight.

Be well.

Rain
October 23rd, 2008 (24 Comments)

Hey there.  At Orlando House of Blues and it is raining.  But that is besides the point.  The point is that last night, Teppei, Matt Skiba, me, and some other folks you don’t know, stayed up till 6 o’clock devising an amazing thing.  We all decided we had to much time on our hands and so we created TourU.  We had our first classes today, a Krav Maga class and a french language class we lovingly refer to as “Freedom Class.”  Other classes to come include knitting, cooking, wine tasting, philosophy and worldview discussions, biking, etc.  This is the kind of thing that would usually get talked about and not done, but the first day already went off with very little planning.  Anyway, I’m really excited about it.

Aside from that I am trying to be productive and scheduling time for reading my Apologetics book, reading my book on Finances for right brained people (because I don’t understand money at all,) demo-ing new music, reading Scripture and so forth.  I’m taking detailed notes and making outlines for the books I’m reading which I think will help me retain a lot more information in the long, and will be easy to reference in the future.  On that note, I would like to share a really cool program that I’ve been digging.  It’s called Scrivener, and it’s designed as a writing application but I’ve found it to also be great for organizing ideas, taking notes on what I’m reading, etc.  I can’t describe it because it does a lot, but if you are a mac user and you write at all, I recommend you download it for a 30 free trial and watch the introductory video showing all the features.  It’s awesome.

Hellos from St. Pete!
October 21st, 2008 (21 Comments)

This tour is moving fast… I can’t believe we are already three weeks in.
Teppei and I have been busy with much crocheting/knitting (LIKE REAL MEN!) and other various projects.

I brought out my Digital SLR (Nikon D-100) and plan on snapping many a photo.
SPEAKING OF WHICH!
We created a contest for all you fellow photo peeps. You have to submit your photos soon though… time is running short. Details can also be found on our myspace page. I’d be psyched to nerd out about photo stuff with whomever wins :)

I can’t thank you all enough for coming out and supporting the shows. They’ve been awesome and I’m happy to be on the road again.
This music stuff is pretty fun… I do miss my morning surf and bike rides to coffee though :/

Hope to see you all at shows soon… be well,

Edward

Christmas in September
October 14th, 2008 (50 Comments)

Hey everyone. Night two in New York.  Last night went great, as has most of this tour so far.  I’ve been hermitized until now because…
I just finished my Christmas Record.  I haven’t really mentioned it because  (a).  I’ve been spending all my time working on it, and (b). I wasn’t totally sure I would finish it in time to come out this year.  But, last night I finished it up and Teppei is finishing the mixes tonight.  It’s going to be an online release only and will hopefully be out in mid-November sometime.   The title is “This Good Night Is Still Everywhere” and it contains 8 covers and 2 Christmas originals.  I love Christmas music so it was a lot of fun to do this and I’m glad I get to share it with you guys.  More info to come in the future.
